What to Expect

What should you expect during your newborn session?
Newborn sessions are done within the first 4-10 days of life, but premies generally can be a little older. If you are wanting the cute, sleepy poses that you see this is the best time to do them since baby is still very squishy and flexible from being curled up in the womb. Newborn sessions generally last 2-3 hours depending on how sleepy the baby is and how many feedings he/she needs throughout the session. Babies are much easier to work with when they have a full stomach. If they are bottle fed, be sure to bring plenty of formula! If you breastfeed I have sitting room and privacy for mothers to feed their baby(ies).

Family photos and sibling shots.
If you are wanting family pictures with your newborn be sure to dress simple. Wear a plain white or black shirt or tank top. Photos will be done from the waist up. Photos with dad can usually be done with dad shirtless, but I don't normally press the issue. I will leave that up the parents and will be available upon request.

If you have other children and want to do sibling shots, be sure to have a back up plan as to how you will keep them busy. Younger children will grow anxious and hot with the room being warm and toasty for the newborn. Have someone available to take the sibling(s) out after their part of the shoot is finished.

Can I bring outfits for the newborn?
All newborn sessions are typically done in the nude. If you want to bring one outfit for him/her to wear that is fine, but generally 0-3 month outfits seem to engulf the newborn and I may not be able to pose them right in the photos with large outfits.

Do you have props to use?
Absolutely! I have hats, headbands, wraps, blankets, buckets, and other props to use. Feel free to browse what I have to offer and choose what you like.

What should I bring for the newborn photos?
I love it when parents bring family heirlooms or something special from the newborn's nursery. It makes your pictures more personalized to YOU!
